Synopsis:

The Role:
The Director of Studies works alongside Sales and Service teams to ensure the academic integrity of language programmes run at EF centres and the development of their centre as a unit. This is done by the careful management and development of a teaching team and adherence to operational performance indicators such as production efficiency, staff and student retention and customer satisfaction.  The ADo
S could also be considered a “Probationary Do
S,” as they will likely need more guidance and coaching from the CM and/or PM than a Do
S.
 
Working Schedule
• 40 hours per week in agreement with Center Director, inclusive of classroom teaching hours up to but not exceeding 18ACH, may occasionally require above 40 hours per week
• 5 days per week during non-peak season and 6 days per week in peak season
• Onsite and offsite duties

A. Communication
The ADo
S is required to have a full understanding of the needs of the different staff members working for EF Education First and have a strong awareness of the customer requirements. The ADo
S needs to be an effective communicator skilled at influencing the team in the best interest of EF Education First. Communication is subdivided into the following levels:
1. Academic team level
Organize and lead regular academic team meetings and effectively communicate management decisions and company updates to teachers
Increase cultural appreciation for the different nationalities working within the team and awareness of the needs of the different departments operating within
Maintain effective communication between co-teachers
Develop and maintain an effective professional relationship with members of the academic team
 
2. Centre Level
Meet regularly with the CD and other supervisors to exchange all relevant information
Implement academic changes resulting from company developments and group decisions, in agreement with the CD
Work closely with the CD and other supervisors to ensure the effective inter-departmental co-operation
Pro-actively develop open channels of communication between academic team and other teams within the centre
Attend and lead weekly staff meeting in order to liaise with the sales, service team in case of student level change, complaints, student disciplinary matters, academic queries and course management duties.
Deal with staff (teacher, CD, service and sales) concerns promptly and effectively, communicating needs to other managers/departments as necessary
Provide the CD and other supervisors with copies of the academic team meeting minutes
 
3. Regional Level
Consult with the Regional PM regarding the academic quality, concerns and projects in the centre
Pro-actively develop open channels of communication with other Do
S’s in the region
Keep EF Education First Regional office informed of, and seek approval for, changes regarding the centres academic program and systems
Share centre initiatives and best practice with other centres in the network
Share centre performance and plans with Regional PMs every month
Attend monthly Do
S meeting
Attend annual Do
S conference (requires travel)
 
B. Scheduling & Teacher Utility
• Liaise with the CD to ensure the effective scheduling of classes, extra-curricular activities and events in accordance with EF Education First Guidelines
• Understand how group size and utility affect the performance of the centre and assist the CD in scheduling teachers and classes in the best interest of the centre
• Maintain a balanced, fair, and transparent scheduling strategy that supports teacher development and retention
• Schedule the Do
S and teachers the required number of academic classroom hours in accordance with EF Education First Guidelines and maximise staff efficiency and effectiveness within the forty-hour working week in agreement with the CD 
• Maintain and ensure the accuracy of the centre’s schedule in order to effectively communicate; class times, course management procedures, administrative and extra-curricular duties to all staff members in accordance with the EF Education First Guidelines
• Schedule and co-ordinate the placement testing of learners to ensure maximum teacher availability (In agreement with CD)
• Substitute and arrange cover for classes in the best interest of the centre
• Ensure Life Clubs, Study Clubs and Parent Clubs are scheduled in accordance with the EF English First Guidelines
 
C. Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
• Taking an active role in personal assessment and development
• Train and induct teachers in operational procedures and EF Education First company products through the facilitation of the Regional and Local Induction Programs
• Encourage, facilitate and participate in the professional development of teachers 
• Observe each teacher on a regular basis according to EF Education First guidelines
• Conduct teacher appraisals on set frequency following consultation with the CD and other supervisors 
• Support the development of future academic managers through SMART delegation, coaching, and building of professional autonomy according to each teacher’s level of development and motivation
• Provide regular training to the sales, service and management team regarding the academic product and any updates or changes during the non-peak season
• Work with the CD, PM and teachers to maintain the academic quality of the centre
• Lead and / or arrange regular seminars and workshops in teacher development during the non-peak season
• Co-operate with the other Do
S in the region to arrange and facilitate academic workshops
• Participate in all seminars offered by the Regional / National Support Team
 
D. Academic Administration
• Become familiar with EF Education First company products and procedures
• Co-ordinate and implement all new operational procedures in a timely manner
• Organize and participate in promotional activities as directed by the CD and Regional Support Team
• Oversee the work, development and behavior of students within the centre
• Maintain teacher personal files according to EF Education First company requirements
• Be familiar with the EF Contract, work manual and the OPAL system
• Manage the teacher holiday, sick leave and disciplinary action through the OPAL system
• Prepare the monthly payroll for the academic team for the approval of the CD
• Develop, maintain and enhance administrative systems in co-operation with the Regional PM.
• Ensure the recording, sharing and filing of academic team meeting minutes
• Monitor and ensure the regular timely completion of all Teacher Roles in Odin (TRi
O) administration
• Complete and send the monthly Do
S report and required supporting documents to the Regional PM and CD
• Monitor and ensure an efficient filing system for all academic based course management procedure administration
 
E. EF Labs for Kids and Teens & Support
• Assist EF Labs for Kids and Teens in the testing and implementation of new EF products
• Pro-actively monitor the effectiveness of the EF products and provide appropriate feedback through established channels
 
F. Facilities & Resources
Maintain wall displays in the centre and create an atmosphere conducive to learning in conjunction with and approval of the CD
Train teachers in sensible resource management
Train teachers in maintaining a presentable centre and well-organized teachers’ room
Ensure Interactive Whiteboards (IWB) are in working order and well maintained
Train teachers to send product and IT related NEMO 
Become familiar with and maintain the academic folder on the server
Maintain an effective filing system for academic materials
Manage and maintain an inventory of academic equipment belonging to the centre
 
G. Classroom Teaching
Teach professional courses based on customer needs
Provide lessons to the highest standards using a variety of motivating techniques
Maintain awareness of new theories and methodology
Always seek to develop and update skills
 
Main Responsibilities:
Prepare and carry out lessons as assigned by the Director of Studies
Correct, record and administer the results of quizzes, tests, assessments and progress reports for students
Communicate students’ progress and action plans with parents via phone and parent-teacher meetings
Assist in the placement testing and interviewing for new students’ enrollment
Carry out academic events including demo lessons and parent communication
Attend teacher training presentations and workshops for own development
Substitute for absent colleagues, perhaps at short notice, on or off-site
 
Essential Qualifications:
1. Notarized Bachelor's Degree from the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia
2. Speaks English at an idiomatic level or native or a Graduate from an English speaking country
3. A recognized TEFL qualification
4. A minimum of 3 years FEL teaching experience
5. Trinity CTESOL or Cambridge CELTA
6. Clear background/ police check
7. Qualified for China’s visa application requirements

Employment Salary Package around RMB20000-23000/Month, with Z visa:
1. Monthly base salary at least RMB15,000-16,000 per month
2. Quarterly bonus
